V6 Hunting.

Today, I cleaned out the breathers and replaced the rocker cover gaskets with proper Vx items.
Typicaly, the spark plug wells were full of oil, soaked up as much as poss then removed the plugs - you can guess what happened on start up, can't ya!  ;D ;D ;D
On start up, usual oil smoke for a bit (OK, a long time!!!), but ran OK except for lumpy tickover.
Sprayed some soapy water around all the vacuum connections and couldn't see any bubbles, so I wonder if the inlet fannymould is leaking? Shouldn't be leaking, but if it's a massive probability, then I'll look at it again..............some time!

Also, could I 'eck as like get the throttle cable off from the throttle body!   >:(
Removed the locking wire-springy-thingy, but I could not for the life of me, pull the ball end off (oo-err!). Managed to break the cruise cable tang which I can fix - but need to get the throttle cable off! Any ideas?

Make sure ICV is pushed home correctly, but i guess you have already done this :-/

Ta mate - I'm sure I did, but worth checking again! :y

I did clean it out and lighlty oil the moving parts. Maybe that's upset it a bit.

Put some mole grips in the throttle connector but don't squeeze it tight, then you'll be able to pull it off.

 .... and how are you ging to see these bubbles Pete?  ;) You need a POSTIVE pressure to blow bubbles, any bubbles you've  just sucked are inside the pipes!  ;)  ;)   :y  :y  :y

Towards the rear of the engine, drivers side, screwed into the block is a brass breather, it should have a black rubber hose push fitted to it, the hose tends to perish and leak, the engine tick-over then hunts between 700 to 1500 rpm. The hole in the brass breather is 1mm dia, clear out the hole with a paper clip, the black rubber hose tends to 'perish', cut the last 15mm off, it should still fit.
It can also just become dislodged when working at the back of the engine, worth a look.

^^^  He's right ... :)

Easy way to check for vacuum leaks ... with engine runing on tick-over, lightly spray carb cleaner around vacuum pipes/joints .. if the engine note changes then the carb cleaner has be drawn in by the vacuum ... investigate and rectify   ..then wipe the excess carb cleaner offwith paper towels .. and you have a fixed problem and a nice clean engine  :)

Yeah - that's on the breather block - there's a bigger hose on t'other side of it. Cleaned them both out as per the destructions by Ronald McBurger on here somewhere.
And yes, the pipe did break off, but as you said, it's still long enough to connect back up. :y

I'm now thinking (might need a lie down in a bit though) - the two centre pipes on the back of the black box thingy on top on the plenum - do they need to be a certain way round? I wonder if I got them confuzzled up. :-/

OK, so the idea behind the soapy water is that it's worked before as a leak detector on an inlet system........... not massive bubbles, but a series of little ones. Granted, maybe not as easy to spot as the carb cleaner method, but I sort of ran out of carb cleaner at the time..........  :-[
