Water Leak

Ok, my dreaded water leak is still not cured. Origianlly it was using around 1 litre over 20 miles then we stripped it and found that it was leaking from the coolant bridge. Removed and resealed with new bolts/seals and ok for about 1 day. Then noticed more fluid dripping under the car.

Stripped her down on saturday and thought it was still leaking from oil cooler pipe at rear of engine. Removed and resealled and rebuilt. On startup it was still dripping. I have however noticed that it hardly leaks when running without heaters on in car however it leaks more when heaters on. Do you think this is related or just a coincidence??

If the oil cooler pipe was leaking mate oil would be leaking out.
Like already said try your HBV, but if it is still leaking at the back and it isn't either the HBV, coolant bridge or the oil cooler plate, it could be the rear of the transfer pipe.

Thing is on checking it over on three occasions now you cannot see any leaks on the hbv. All the other areas show signs of leak due to the antifreeze however the hbv shows no signs.

I was origianlly going to put in a tracer dye however my spares shop does not sell it anymore.

I do have a spare hbv so I suppose i could fit that for the sake of it, and I do have a full set of spare hoses. The only other thing we can think of is a) the small hose that comes around from the front of the engine to the rear and b) the larger coolant hose that mounts just below the coil but lord knows how you are supposed to get to that with the engine in situe :-/

I would try the HBV first.
Also what you can do is pressurize the system when you have the plenum and inlet of and you will then see where the actual leak is.
The pipe you are refering too is a pain, but with the coolant bridge off you can get at the two bolts at the back :y

Well Im not going to do it until next weekend as dark when I get home. Whats the easiest way to presurise the system???

I was hoping that we had sorted it by replacing the bolt on the oil cooler as it looked like it was leaking from there but to no avail. My local motor factors thinks Im trying to get shares in carplan antifreeze with how much ive bought  :D. Once Ive sorted the leak Im going to flush it and put red in as it should be.  ;)

Ok I have a couple of spare pressure caps and can easlily get hold of an old innertube as my brother works in a scap yard.

But without sounding too dumb (no im not blonde  ;D) whats appoxy glue. Is this something you get from b&q or is it a special glue??

Without reading the how too - sounds like good old fashioned epoxy resin.  Should be able to pick up in B&Q or any other DIY store. HTH :y
