omega 2.2 cam sensor fault/gearbox
« on: 27 March 2009, 13:24:49 »

i have an omega 2.2 petrol auto, the car has been plugged in and is showing a cam sensor fault, the sensor has been changed ( twice ) but the fault is still there, the wiring is all good so the problem was deemed to be the ecu, 2 ecu's later and still the same problem, the gearbox is in limphome ie seems to be setting off in second gear, the sport light isn't flashing but doesnt light up when the button is pressed, could the gearbox ecu be at fault, if so is this putting the cam sensor fault up, unlikley i know but i'm running out of idea's, the car has only done 30 000 miles so mechanical failure is unlikley, in my mind the engine ecu is good, as said all 3 ecu's show the same fault, none seem to take the box out of limp home, we were assuming the gearbox has shut down because of the cam sensor fault, anyone else had the same problems, i posted this question earlier in the wrong section, newbie obviously! Thanks in advance for your help, Dave.

i would get it read by one of the tech2's specialists on here - if you update your location this will help in finding someone who could provide an accurate diagnosis

When i had a cam sensor problem it sent my box into limp mode aswell , i cant remember the code but it was something about " mil request from transmission ecu " ... i changed my cam sensor with genuine VX part and the fault went away though ... are you using a genuine sensor ?

has been plugged in with a tech 2, first cam sensor was spurious, we sent that back thinking it was faulty and fitted a genuine vx part, the wheel has been checked and all the wiring checked and double checked, the car is currently in the garage i use for all my plug ins and technical stuff, i am in the Wigan area, i'm under the impression that the gearbox shuts down when there's an engine fault, gearbox ecu is just a wild stab in the dark but i'm pretty sure the box will come back to life when we sus the cam sensor out, could it be reading wrong and need a crank sensor?? Thanks, Dave.

silly question but have you checked its al timed up correct, thats what the cam sensor is there to keep any eye on so you could be chasing the syptom and not the cause

just an update, checked the timing, all ok, turns out the 2 cam sensors we tried were none genuine items, fitted a genuine vx part today which has cured the problem, if anyone else has the same problem, don't fit any sensors unless they're genuine, might look at a gas conversion now?? Thanks for your input, Dave.

pattern cam sensors on 2.0 and 2.2 do appear to give problems!

you're not kidding, both sensors were brand new out of the box, i could understand 1 being faulty but not 2 hence the reason we started looking at other possible cures, Dave.
