the highest gear the box will use

so 1 wil only use 1st
2 will use 1st and 2nd
3 will use 1st, 2nd and 3rd
D will use 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th (and 5th if you have a Y25DT engine)

Leave in D unless you need to lock the lower gears

Use English, no text speak which is notoriously difficult to read.

To answer it in different words beyond what TB has said, if you are descending a very steep hill to save your brakes / in addition to them use the best gear of these three.  If climbing a very steep hill, say behind a very slow lorry, use 2nd or even 1st. ;) ;)
