Would a 3.2 backbox fit a 2.2?
« on: 03 April 2009, 19:49:03 »

As title suggests, need a new exhaust from cat back. So thought might as well get the twin tailpipe as on the 3.2 for my 2.2 petrol saloon. Buying from Vaux so not a pattern copy. Just wondering if it'd fit?

Would physically fit but won't work as it's a twin pipe system from front to back on the V6's

EDIT: Oh and the genuine GM exhausts on the V6 are no better than cheap pattern ones now.  :(

Thanks for your reply. I am still just a touch confused, sorry. But if I did buy a 3.2 backbox it would fit onto the centre section, but don't get what you mean by it wouldn't work? Do you mean the exhaust gases would only come out of one pipe instead of both? I prefer the look of the twin tailpipe, so if I did decide to go down that route, it wouldn't cause any damage would it?

V6 exhaust is two pipes (one from each side of the engine) all the way through to the backbox which has two pipes going in and two pipes going out.

Your 2.2 system is a single pipe from front to back so when you reach the backbox you only have one pipe to join onto the twin pipe input on the back of the backbox.

What Andy is saying "the V6 has a two pipes system & your 2.2 has a single pipe system".

Must type faster ;D

Thanks all, good news then...looks like I'll be putting a 3.2 backbox on. It never fails to bring a smile to face this forum, you're all great and I don't know what I'd do without you.

I went into my local vaux dealer today to get idea of prices. For a 2.2 backbox normal retail is £91 plus vat. And the 3.2 was £116 plus vat. So I thought didn't seem to bad. I think I'll join ABS as soon as possible to get a trade club card and hopefully get the price down. O/S centre pipe was £93 plus vat, N/S was £101 plus vat. I'm hoping the cat doesn't need doing as retail was £720 plus vat. As of yet haven't found a gen vaux cat cheaper. But hoping don't need to change cat.
Anyone know how much cheaper these items are with trade card?

well these days its not worth getting a GM zorst, it used to be the way they were better, i got one of the last true ones.

Having seen what people got from dealers recently, they seam no better than the el-cheapo pattern ones

Thanks alexandjen, really useful info to have. Much appreciated. Without meaning to be too cheeky, do you know aswell how much a 3.2 backbox on trade club would be? Part no 93192230 I think.

Doesn't appear to be listed on the Trade Club website, someone with a yellow book should be able to help

Edit: £86.37 listed as a 3.0 but same part number
