Depends how far you want to go. Vauxhall says
Vehicles with automatic transmission 3
should be towed facing forwards only and
must not be towed faster than 50 mph
(80 km/h) or further than 60 miles (100 km).
If the transmission is defective, or if the above
speed or distance is to be exceeded, the drive
shaft must be disconnected from the rear axle
or the rear axle raised off the ground

Yeh if the prop is removed you can tow it as far as you like! But as Andy says, if your only going up the road then you can prob get away without removing it (Just make sure you take it out of Park!!! )

Take your vehicle to the nearest Vauxhall
Dealership, who will serve you best to get
your vehicle back on the road.

Thanx Im now a bit confused. Am I right it can be towed up to a distance of 60 miles but no faster than 50mph without damage to auto box without disconnecting prop.

If the auto box is u/s it must be lifted or the prop disconnected.

Surley if its knackered it doesnt matter!

If you are traveling more than 60 miles then the rear of the car needs lifting of the ground.The reason why is that the rear axle will sieze. If you are traveling 10 miles down the road then you can tow the car without lifting or disconnecting the propshaft, the car can be towed with all four wheels on the road with no problems.

As a 'safety margin' for towing an Auto:   I always used to say. No more than 30 miles distance at No more than 30 miles per hour. to aleviate any futher possible damage. Possibly  later cars will accept more ??

It will matter when the box siezes solid and your dragging a ton and a half of dead weight

thanks to all im finally going to see whether this mig is all its cracked up to be as its cambelt has failed. it is supposed to be mint bodlily and its interior. its a v plate v6 any one got any ideas what to pay :-/
