Congrats! I have the same prob with my 2.6 facelift estate now it seems. Hot oil smell and slightly more oil consumption than one would expect. I'm a bit daunted to try and do this job in one day though. Don't know whether I can trust the local garage and don't know whether can afford the Vaux MD. Is anyone willing to have a go for me? I'd rather pay someone who kinows what they're doing than the local garage chappie.

How do I know if these need changing?
How do I change them - I've looked for a guide on how to do it but can't find one?

I am only cam belt kit, aux belt kit, a few tools, a few washers away from a complete set of parts.

Lots of bluey/grey smoke on start up and oil needs topping up more than normal.

Aha... I have exactly the same problem. My VX main dealer told me that my cam cover gaskets have gone and they need doing. I am very reluctant to pay the price that they quoted me - £481.25!!! If there is anyone around my neck of the woods (Stansted-ish) that can do it for a realistic price, I would gladly give cash. I am prepared to travel a fair distance to get it done as i'm sick of the smoke coming from the engine!

Phew, I've not got the blue/grey smoke and the oil seems fine now that the CCG have been done.
