put new water pump on 3.0 elite-now overheating.

hello all,i put a new pump on and got all the air locks out drove to tavistock from bristol and got coolant low warning on,let her cool down checked level all fine-started her up drove about 10 mile an temp went up to 100 then climbed up to red,pulled over asap an header tank was going nuts,all fans on,started car again an temp showed just over 90 started driving and temp climbed again into red,best thing was i was stuck on the moors at the time not a street light in sight,lol.

bought new hbv and thermostat,going to put them on this weekend before i start worrying about the cost of head gaskets and new heads. :(

When the coolent/engine has cooled down open the header tank cap, slowly it will be hot and pressurised if you just used it, what do you see in there? any sludge gunk or muck? or is it clear and coloured pink/blue or whatever it should be?

Whats the oil like on the dip stick?

Why did you need to change the water pump?

Nope.

Question: WHat make of pump was it and did it have a metal impellar.

Its possible its a faulty pump

aux belt still on?  if yes then agree (not that I'd disagree with Mark)  water pump is at fault

Should I know something about metal impellers ??? The one I have waiting to go on when I do my cambelt is a genuine VX one with said metal impeller  :D

put on metal impeller water pump,and bought car off a bloke who started it in cold weather and it broke on his driveway,put water in drove it to my house(not far) didnt overheat kept stopping when approaching red.it ran ok from newport to bristol and then ok to tavistock it was only when i headed back it played up-oil is ok golden no sludge except under oil cap(normal for short drives). :o

what are the signs of a dodgey water pump....? apart from metal or plastic impellers..?
