constant misfire and left bank plugs oiled
« on: 11 April 2009, 09:28:06 »

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone’s had the following fault that’s currently afflicting my Omega It’s a 1999 2.5 litre manual petrol estate.
The car has been running fine up until when I parked up the other evening. The next morning I noticed that the engine was running rough (as if a cylinder had dropped out). It felt as if one or more of the plug leads had been disconnected. I’ve tried changing the plugs. When I was working on the left bank of plugs as you look from the front of the car I noticed a coating of what looked like new oil on the threads and electrodes I’ve had the cam cover off, but I can’t see where the oil has been leaking into the plug-holes.
Someone told me it might be the DIS module. Could anyone tell me how to change one, if there are any tips or special tools required?
If anyone’s got any suggestions I would be very grateful.
Cheers Stavros

Common prob on the v6 omega, cam cover gaskets go hard over age and start leaking into the plug wells, the oil in the wells then destroys the ends of the plug leads and you get a missfire.

If left too long it can cause damage to the dis pack :exclamation

1. change cover gaskets
2. change plug leads (if they look bad)
3. if this doesn't solve the missfire it may well be dis-pack - which is located under the scuttle on a bracket on the rear of passenger side cylinder head :y
