AR25 now AR35 and the problem remains...

I got a 'new' AR35 box from a trusted breaker on OOF.
Drained the oil, fitted a new filter, set the clutch.
Removed old AR25 and fitted AR35. A hard but enjoyable job.
Filled correctly with Fuchs Dex II.

Now, the 'new' box is behaving just like the old box but not as harshly.

It holds second gear and thumps into third with a jerk.

This seems too much of a coincedence. Can anybody think of a common fault which may cause this ?

I really don't want to rip another gearbox out this year  ::) ::) :y :y

Thought gearboxes are supposed to have Dex III gearbox oil?

Did you disconnect the battery when you changed the box ?

Your fault sounds like it was held in the transmision memory somehow.

What you could try is to lock the POS & NEG battery leads together (battery disconnected)and leave for several hours and that should clear any stored memory.

Or get a tech 2 and see whats going on !

Had it on TechII (Marks DTM) last week. Showed a gearbox fault (the AR25). Classic thrust bearing failure.

I can lock the leads together. Worth a try. Thanks  :y :y

Well its been a week now. Checked the level last Monday and topped up by about 150ml.

The box seems to have settled down and is performing as it should  ;D

Many thanks to you guys, mainly Marks DTM, for giving me the confidence to attack this daunting task. :y

Thanks to Mark and Chris for offering their time to supply and fit a new box.  :y
