fitting 3.0l cams to a 2.5
« on: 12 April 2009, 18:16:44 »

i've just been asked by a mate, that has bought some cams, how hard is it to fit them??
Thought i'd ask on here.
i've done a fair bit of work on mine, even got round to changing the cam cover gaskets.
is it just a case of fitting them whilst doing them??

Is it not wise to upgrade the slushbox as well due to increase in BHP :-/

he's bought the cams, and just asked me how hard is was to fit.
i've never thought about fitting any tbh, so thought i'd open it to the floor.
cam cover gaskets aren't a problem, done those on mine.

Steve,
now that you've sold the MV6 wheels (presumably the same ones as on the car by your signature), what are you currently using?

Your mate will need all 4 cams (3Litre ones are marked A+G  - 2.5 ones aren't marked at all). As mark says timing has to be right.

As it happens the latest TV is showing how to strip the GM V6 and mentions all this.

he has got all 4 cams.
i think it'll be a job for a mechanic tbh, a little out of my hands.
the wheels that i sold were surplus, as i had 12 wheels, now down to 8, including the ones on the car.
was told to get rid of some of them...
had them powder coated and everything...
was gonna have a set of powder coated, and an original set (refurbed).
2 sets of 5 alloys, and sell the other 2.
looks like i may have to get rid of another couple of wheels soon.... :-/

And the 2.5 cams are marked.

I wonder how many people with the X25XE (not the C25XE) have not bothered changing the exhaust cams and lost out on the 1mm lift gain.

You also want the lower inlet manifold bridge piece to.

Ow yes, ignore any stories about 4 bar fuel pressure reguators as they do bugger all. If you really want one then buy one for a 2.6/3.2 from Vx for 25 quid (3.8Bar) rather than getting bent over the table at some 'tuning' specialist
