Idle speed/Surge

Recently when coming to a stop (at lights for instance) the cars revs will die down to around 500ish then a little surge takes it up to 650 say then back to 500ish autobox fitted any common reason for this guys?

It could be your IAC (idle air control valve). fairly easy to clean. Unplug it and wrest it free and a couple of squirts of carb cleaner should get rid of any crud build up. then replace. The rubber gasket where it goes into the plenum might seem odd but that is how it is!

ICV mate - remove as above, squirt quite a lot of carb cleaner in there and shake well.  Empy out and repeat until inside spotless.  Do not be tempted to scrape inside with anything metallic like a screwdriver.  Then lightly oil (light machine oil best) and refit :y
