Backbox 3.2...Vauxhall Dealer help
« on: 01 May 2009, 17:28:50 »

Hello All,
Hope we are all well. I've just returned from a 2 week holiday to cornwall. Before I went I purchased an exhaust from the cat back for my Omega from my local Vaux dealer for a total of £251 with TC.
It was fitted by a local mechanic I trust.
The problem is the backbox in my opinion looks awful. My car is a 2.2 petrol so the original tailpipe was only a single one. But I opted for the 3.2 backbox as I think twin tailpipe looks better. I went to Vaux hoping I'd get good quality parts.
The new system is much louder and I am certainly not happy with it. But what I want help is with the backbox. I've included pics of it. It doesn't look right to me. The tailpipes are straight and don't look right. Looks like a pattern part. Looks like a boyracer exhaust to me and that's not the look I wanted. Does anyone know where I can get a proper 3.2 backbox? As in the one's fitted originally to the 3.2's. I haven't included a picture of what I want, but can do if needed.

vauxhall recently changed the way they make the omegas exhaust and have imho coppied BOSAL or the likes after market system to save £££

the original exhaust is the best with double skinned back boxes and chromed T pipes unfortunatly you acnt get that system anymore  :'( :'(

I don't know about your back box problem, but i would be carefull having 3.2 V6 on the back. Your insurance company wouldn't like it (unless you've told them). I know it sounds silly, but they won't pay out in the event of your being stolen, because you've made your car more appealing to the scum.

It's a 2.2, but has the 3.2 badge on it. And thanks CD-Pete for bringing it up, a valid point. I did tell my insurance company, didn't make any difference.

thats is what they are selling now. Exact same as what i have. You wont get the original back box new. They dont make it anymore. Wouldnt be quite so bad if the new replacement exhausts where not still at the original price. The pikey thiefs.

Although why have the badge?? When some little oik in a mini shoots past you off the lights they are gonna tell tales on how they beat a 3.2 Omega???

My genuine system doesn't look brilliant - in fact I think it is part genuine and part new crap

So would the commonly held beliefe be that Vauxhall won't have any at all? Where does anyone think I should look? I suppose an alternative may be to find a scrapped 3.2 with a good back box? But I suppose there's always the risk it might not last too long.

I can see where your coming from but it still looks better than the standard single pipe, I'm thinking of putting a 3.2 back box on my 2.2 estate but might aswell just get a cheapy if thats what the dealers are seling now.

To be honest, you could've got a custom-made stainless steel system, whitch a nice backbox (as loud or as quiet as you want) for a fair bit cheaper than that...

There's a place round the corner from me that builds custom stainless steel exhausts.  Mines on the way out, so nipped round to them for a chat, and they said that they'd do a full system to manufacturer's spec for 290 beer tokens all-in (including moving O2 sensors to behind the main cat)

His is a 2.2, so should be cheaper.
