I have problems with my mud flaps and I need to know if it is because I am such a fat bastard ? Honest - its true!

I had the standard (well I think they were standard) front & back solid plastic mudflaps fitted to my mig. The tyres are the standard recommended ones pumped up to the recommended pressures.

When cornering (especially at speed) the front ones caught on the tarmac scuffing the bottoms. Eventually both of the front ones cracked and came flying off (not at the same time I hasten to add!) but within a week or so of each other.

The rear ones caught the tarmac everytime I went over the slightest hump and both of these then cracked and have now been removed.

Is this a common known fault or is it due to my weight? I'm 23 stone by the way!

Are there any "rubber" based ones that can be used that won't crack if they catch?

possible self level rear suspension failed? Do you hear the pump running within 2 mins of ignition on. Noise should come from driver front corner. Any hissing around the car?

had to take my front ones off as they caught rear ars fine though

Many thanks for the suggestion - I have nver heard of that before. I will check. Just put on new rear shocks so maybe I should try them again and see if that was the problem.

Question !! Who fitted them and were they for an Omega, the ordinary Vauxhall mud flaps hang to low, the problem is as the Omega is a long time out of production no Omega specific ones are available any more, or are they ?

I have the standard Omega mudflaps on my 2.6 and they scrape on the tarmac on every bend and every bump in the road. They are a menace. I'm 15 stone but I dont think that is overweight - well it is but the car is supposed to be designed to carry 4 or 5 of me. I just think the mudflaps are a bad idea  :-/

Unlikely to be your weight mate...with me, the missus and the 3 kids in the car our weight must be at least that, the cars are designed to carry much more without such issues...just bad design...

My gen Vx mudflaps do catch over speed bumps at the front, the back are ok, but it's an estate so better clearance.
Has it been lowered in the past? could be the cause.
