What is best fuel?
« on: 03 May 2009, 11:04:58 »

Hi, I've just bought a 2.5 V6 1998 . What is the best petrol?
I had a Volvo which ran better on Tesco 99 Octane.
Is it worth the extra cost in the Omega?
Look forward to any advise.

I once used super unleaded, but learnt that unless you have a real 'high performance' car i.e. Porsche or Bugatti, then standard unleaded is quite good enough. :y :y

I definately get better mpg on the higher octane fuels, tend to use Shell V Power.

Supermarket fuels are cheap for a reason imho.

EDIT: corrected fuel name

try BP 102 it costs £2.50 a litre but does make a difference seems to give the 3 litre v6 a noticible bit more tourqe

if your not rich enough to afford BP 102 then try Shell V Power

Always use Shell V-power (BP Ultimate if I cant get that). It does make a difference and altho it costs more it does seem to give better mpg as well as better performance. I work for a supermarket and always makes me laugh when I see people in things like Porshe 911s fill up . Must dig it out but there was a review of all these fuels by one of the jap performance mags some time ago where they tested them and Optimax (as it was then) came out on top, then BP ultimate , then (someway behind) Tesco 99ron then standard unleaded. Used to have a grey import Prelude vtec and that only liked the optimax as it was set up for 99ron not 95ron fuel and if I ever had to put in a full tank of std unleaded she almost pinked. I can certainly run my mig (2.5) on std supermarket fuel but she is a lot smoother and seemingly a tad more powerful on the vpower. Dont think its all in the mind anyway ;D

Thanks everyone,
Can not justify cost of LPG conversion but I take your point.
I will try Shell V power and let you know if I see a difference.
Again thanks

Fuel is fuel, all you need is any old 95 ron in a Miggy.

It's only a mig - not a formula one car :y

The only benefit to the "premuim" fuels, is the additives that can clean the fuel system etc.... but you only need it once in a while, not all the time.
