Mine was about that price courtesy of the AA man who used his Trade Card at Halfords on my behalf when the 56AH battery that had been fitted by a VX dealer gave up the ghost!

code 64 is back :'( :'( :'( :'(  and not easy to start. Turns over but doesnt fire up straight away. No loss of power in fact im amazed on how quick it goes :o Compared to when  I got it a few weeks ago its running really well and the smoke on start up has gone. This car had sat still for at least 6 months before I got it and only done 2000 miles in last 3-4 years! Ive done 500 miles in it already ;D ;D ;D I will try the diesel magic again and also Should the glow light plug come on every time I turn the ignition on?

Glow-plug light does not come on when the engine's warmed-up.

I think it means problems with temp sensor/hp pump. Double the value of your car.
But if it runs fine ignore it.

Does it start bad when hot? :(

Had this on mine - the dreaded '64'. Basically, the injection pump was naffed.

It ran like this for about 6 months though, before finally failing on me. I tried everything possible, including following the sound advice of fellow OOFers, and a new pump was eventually fitted at a cost of just over 1200 quid.
If you're also having warm-start problems, try pouring a kettle full of cold water over the pump when it's hot. If it then starts reasonably well, you've confirmed the problem. 'Omegatoy' is very knowledgeable on this very issue - hopefully he'll be along soon.

Is it the pump that costs the money or is it the labour? Ive seen a few pumps on an Auction site.  I guess this isnt something I could change :-? I can get the manifold off in 5 mins now, as Ive had it off so many times :D :D :D
