Printer Buying Advice
« on: 21 November 2007, 16:54:09 »

I'm looking into buying a new printer, and it's been years since I looked at any.

Does anybody have any recommendations?

Was thinking of an all-in-one, such as this.

Also, is it true that some don't come with USB cables or even ink?

TIA,

Louis

Ideal for home, some dont have the USB cable, and it should have a get by cartridge, it wont last you long so get a set of cartridges.

There are hundreds of printers on the market but that is fine.

Last USB cable I bought was 57p...   ...so anyone charging more than about £2 is conning you. Argos sell for £2.99 I believe.

Had Epson printers for a couple of years and they both ended up with the same faults..(Mainly ink getting clogged). And they didn't print photos off very well.
A friend of ours printed a photo off on his Cannon and it looked fantastic.
We then bought a Cannon IP6700D and we love it  ;)
We only use the manufacturers own ink which works out at about £60 a set..Seems a lot but it lasts us ages and I think you can tell the difference in the quality.

Canon do have good reputation for rendition, but have dropped off slightly lately, allowing HP and Epson to catch up.  Epson are improving their clogging problems slowly as well.  Not sure what I would buy now  :-/

It prints money!?!  :)

I would not recommend Lexmark to ANYBODY! Horrible machines and seem to be the work of the devil and should therefore be banished from this earth forever into a flaming pit of oblivion.

Look at printer costings not how cheap the printer is, find some old printer reviews in the photography/computer mags and look at and compare the specs... fact is, somebody I know, when the ink ran out on his printer just used to go buy a new printer of the same model everytime, the printer was 20 quid the cartridges were 30  :-?
