You can just pull the washer pump out, take off the grill, only 3 screws, it's the small one

thank god - i have put that off for months cos of it being a scary job.
And I take it the big one is for the headlight washers ?

OK done the paperclip, got back 19 - Incorrect RPM Signal.

is that just cos the engine wasn't on or was that the fault when it was cutting out ?

19 = Get a new crank sensor fitted asap or be prepared to walk home. (current wisdom is to only use genuine vx sensor, ebay ones seem unreliable)

I get code 19 with mine with engine off but was told its because of that. Engine off???

Went to try with the engine running - but battery is to flat to start it (left sitting for to long)

Without engine running you should get 31 (not 19)

So I know its been a while since the original post with this problem but finally got round to starting fixing things.

I desided the first thing to do was the crank sensor, since at least I would be able to start the car.

Having replaced it with the correct one, biggest hassel was finding the right cable, job its self it easy as. However, now the engine turns, which is an improvment on before but doesn't run. Initally I presumed this is cos I was jumping it with a metro so would be a lack of power, but having tried my mates 2.0 honda something the problem continues. The oil leak has left some oil sitting in the plug wells dispite my best efforts to clear them completly (intending to do this along with new plugs when changing the cam gaskets), would this effect the leads getting the spark to the plugs or is this going to be a fuel issue.

Basically I don't want to spend a few hundred on parts before knowing that the engine turns. so any advice on how to figure out what the issue is stopping the engine running would be a massive help and would be massivly appretiated.

Anyway, with crank sensor replaced try paper clip test again to confirm the fix. If no other codes would suggest missfires and ignition problems. But test the battery output first, guide in maintenance or at least give it a charge over night. If its not breaked after all that time idle ill be suprised.

While your in maintenance have a brouse. You will find a guide on fixing the cam cover gaskits, use genuine seals only, and cleaning the breathers, which is the cause of your oil leak, most likely. Hth
