Replacement Exhaust Query
« on: 15 May 2009, 17:06:00 »

Ive just had my exhaust checked as it sounds horrible.  They've told me one of the rear boxes need replacing and I could of had it done today for £206 or tomorrow for £143......not much of a choice me thinks!  Its the last box on the offside before it joins the tailpipe box if that makes any sense??? Does £143 sound a bit expensive?  The other thing is the tail pipe has a constant puff of white smoke and water dripping out of the end. The fella who was looking at reckoned its steam because it only does short journeys.  Does that sound right?

Dont Know the prices yet But you will always get water from the exhaust because of the cat. it is normal and nothing to worry about.
try www.buypartsby.co.uk   or   www.autovaux.com they might be cheaper and you could have your parts in the morning. Hope this helps :y

Thanks for checking that for me.  I'm not handy at all so i'd have to pay someone to fit but i'm guessing it would still work out cheaper

First off, who gave you the "diagnosis"?

If it was the likes of Kwik-Fit/National Tyres/whatever your local centre is called, you'd be better off driving to your local government animal testing centre (that doesn't officially exist) and talking to one of the semi trained lab rats.

My parents live not that far from you (BR5), I'll quite happily pop in and point you in the right direction where exhausts are concerned if you can wait till next weekend.

yeh just replaced my centre sections and if your not handy with a spanner best to get a local mechanic to do the dirty as the centre sections are bolted into the cats and will more often than not be siezed solid( I snapped 2 of 4 bolts on mine)  and require liberal amounts of heat ,plus gas etc .Also if the rear section is still good could have welded itself into centre sections .

cheers KillerWatt im in br5 aswell, so your mum & dad can't be far away. I took the car to RSR in Bromley Common who seem pretty good to be fair.  I really wanted to get it sorted tomorrow as the noise is driving me nuts but if you are about sometime next weekend i'd be really grateful if you could give my car the once over.

Well I bit the bullett and got it done (£133 not £143!!) and it's definitely better but with the misfire it makes difficult to tell whether anymore of the exhaust needs replacing as it still sounds a bit on the throaty side. I had the rocker cover, plugs and leads done a couple of days ago but gonna have to get the dispack changed aswell.
