still banging and clanging
« on: 15 May 2009, 14:55:04 »

well had both lambdas replaced and its still banging and clanging when it eventually starts. the engine manangament light is back on again.
is there anyone in my area, that could come take a look at it as the endless mechanics and techs scratching theirs heads and telling me they dont know what is wrong is driving me nuts >:(

I would be grateful for any help offered as its really getting me down, its a lovely car and i dont want to give up on it. :-/

I did a very quick code read of this car at the Midlands Meet and it was generating rear lambda heater error codes - Unfortunately I didn't think to get any live data at the time.  :-[

Right, had a good look at it.

The Lambdas are a red herring, these do nothing until the engine is warm so play no part in the heat up cycle which is also running rough.

So, checked the cambelt timing, all ok (could do with changing in the next 10K miles or so).

Checked the plugs, all ok.

Checked the DIS pack by doing a voltage test to stress the coils, 40KV, all ok.

Checked the EGR valve, free moving but, blanked off anyway.

Checked manifold vaccum, all ok.

Did some readings of live data, MAF sensor is reporting some strange results.....disconnect MAF and car runs fine.

So MAF is the suspect.....this is currently disconnected so the car runs on a default map, its now pretty much faultless (although down on power).

The clowns who have changed the Lambda sensor need to sort out the fact that the heater is open circuit though!

part should be here tomorrow  ;D ;D ;D  took the car back to the garage told them about the sensor.  they said its the expensive one so its got no wires just a straight fit  :-/ so nothing has been done with it. they suggested seeing the map sensor does when its repalced if its still coming up they will look at it then  ::)
