also for transferring files you can find the other PCs disk as 192.168.1.x\c$ (administrative share) from the explorer bar (if firewall is off)..

But for printers you need a real share

its normally accepted a standard for beginners to do the job with the simplest configuration (for this I tell change the firewall off anyway most routers nowadays have a self firewall)

Sorry guys but I understand PC's in general and I'm struggling with some of the advice so heaven knows how Loo-Knee will get through it !!

I recently added our laptop as a wireless PC networked with our hard wired PC and it couldn't have been simpler....in Start / Control Panel / Wireless Network setup there was a wizard that asked me to plug a USB memory stick into one of the PC's, wait a mo, then plug it into the other for a couple of secs.
Hey presto - networked pc's

I may be crap at car maintenance, but nerdy subjects.....

Hope that helps, LK

my computers together :-[

I have a tower computer upstairs on XP. I have just had a wireless laptop and a router.

I have got everything plugged in, both computers I go online with :y

What I want to do is Network them together so I can move filoes between the two and print out from downstairs.

I have tried and failed on the laptop as it is Vista and very different from XP (well thats my excuse).

Also what stops anyone just using your wireless? I don't seem to have a password or anything?

Bet you wish you'd never asked ;D
