2.2DTi injector pump seal...
« on: 17 May 2009, 20:05:03 »

...hard to change or not? Been offered one with a slowly overfilling sump ;D According to the guys 'mechanic the seal is allowing the fuel to run back into the sump when it's sitting.

The fault sounds valid, but never changed one so can't comment on difficulty.  I can pint you off the process from TIS later tonight if it helps

On this engine the injector is in the middle of the combustion chamber, so as its a single cam the top of the injector is on the same centre line as the cam (Basically they're under the cam). I can't see that the injector washer (The copper washer on the nozzle end) would be causing fuel to leak into the chamber when the engine is off (That would be an injector pintle fault).
The only seal I can see doing this is on what VX term the "traverse" pipe, this goes from the inlet side of the head where the fuel pipes from the pump connect, to the centre where the injector is.
The traverse pipes have 2 seals, one is an "O" ring around the body where it comes through the head casting, the other is where it attatches to the top of the injector (They're clamped by 1 bolt) I'm not sure but I think to get them out you may have to remove the cam, which is a bit of a chore (Did mine when I reconned the head so can't rememver for sure) but on the bright side the seals are under a fiver.
