18"wheels tyre advice
« on: 20 May 2009, 20:19:36 »

got myself a set of momo 18" rims. they came off a mates omega. the tyres that were on it was 225-45-18. have been told that is a bit of an odd ball size. have been advised for 245-45-18. would this be a problem with rubbing & clearances. any advice please. thanks. jon.  :y

I think it's 245/40 to keep the rolling radius correct.
Doh, now I look at it typed out...I'm not 100% sure ::)
Must be correct profile fitted though or the speedo and gearing will be slightly incorrect.

Either way, with the correct tyre profile you can fit up to 19" rims with no arch modification req'd  :y

very interesting site that. according to the calculator i can only fit 225-40 or 45 to the 7.5j-18" rim. anything above that requires a 8 to 9.5 rim.  :-?

Fitting anything wider than the maximum width the rim will allow will cause the tyre to curve or bow outwards along the tread. As long as you stick to the correct profiles and width, even 19's will go on a Mig no problem.
I wouldn't worry too much about "only" having 225's. Unless you up-grade the suspension etc, decent rubber will grip and lay down the power fine. Certainly beyond the handling capabilities of standard Miggy suspension.

Get the right rubber rings and stick 'em on, they'll look great  :y
