Hi Guys,   Went to start the car (3.0 pre facelift elite) and it turned fine but wouldnt fire, eml was flashing while I cranked it. I did paper  clip it and got 144 & 19. I had a crank sensor fail last year-would the code still be showing if I didnt have it put on a tech2 to have it cleared or do I have the start of another fail. Tried to start it again and it spluttered and popped and as I let go of the key (cause it popped) it started and now runs and start fine. Still shows 144 & 19 with the engine running.
Any help or ideas about the 2 code would be great. I dont want to spend on a new sensor if it isnt the fault, but then dont want to break down on the M3 again either.

The code clears after 20-30 starts,so it sounds like you need another sensor.
When the new one was put on was it routed away from the exhaust manifold or routed in the same way as the original? they need to be routed away from the heat of the exhaust as this is what fries the wiring. :y

 I routed it as far away from the manifold as I could.
What about the 144 (immobiliser code) and the flashing eml when I tried to start it. I thought a flashing eml was an immobiliser fault but have no idea where to start, esp. as it is working now.

Not completely sure ,but I have read a few times that a naff crank sensor can throw up other strange codes as well as 19,so I would have thought replace crank sensor and see if the other code clears.

Ignore the 144...crank sensor will need replacing...did you buy genuine Vaux?? The copy ones are generally a bit rubbish :y

No wasnt a vaux one, didnt know at the time it was such a problem. AA bloke told me to route it away from manifold as it caused a failure but at the time wasnt on this site, shame really.
Could I ask why to ignore the 144 and why the eml was flashing when it wouldnt start. Last time the crank sensor went tits the eml didnt flash when it wouldnt start, although then it only failed when it was hot and started again when it was cooled.
