Collant level - refilling every 2-3 weeks. Why?
« on: 21 May 2009, 21:46:41 »

In the past 2 months I've had to refill cooling tank every 2-3 weks. Does anybody have any idea what could be the reason? I've checked all the pipes, theres no leak and engine's not getting overheated either (keeps between 80-90 degrees as usual).
THX for any hints

Heater Bypass Valve... And it does sound like the problem. Be warned, mine was like yours until it finally gave up, on the A3, 100 miles from home, on the way to a funeral :o :o :o

Luckily I managed to go fast enough that it didn't overheat and I managed to limp home with several stops to top up :y :y :y

Can I get it changed myself easily, or does it have to be done by specialist and what's the av. price?

Easy enough job to do, albeit a little tight on access. There's a How To in the guides section. IIRCC the unit is about £35 :y :y :y
