Should it stay or should it go?
« on: 21 May 2009, 19:47:42 »

Evenin' all.
I only require the wisdom of Soloman.
I have an ex plod Mv6 3.2 Estate that has done 144K. I have not had it long and have been using it as a work horse. My main car, a Passat, has just gone Kapput and I would like to bring my Omega up to scratch to use it all the time. I have a vibration at 90mph and I think it is the tyres, but it might be the suspension. (It has just passed an MOT though).Assuming it needs four new tyres, can anybody recommend a good reasonably priced tyre? Michelins are recommended but I can't afford those! It also needs a new exhaust system and a new clutch isn't far away.

I could end up spending £800 on a car worth £1100. I am happy to take a long term view but I am worried about head gaskets. Do they go? And if so, at what sort of mileage.

Sorry that this is like an Agony Aunt Letter. I want to enjoy the car working well but I don't want to piss money away. I have a FSH and the timing belt was done at 121000.

Should it stay or should it go? Advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Terry

STAY!  You will find plenty of tyres on rims, on ebay, on here, all over the place, and very cheap too.  144K is nothing, certainly not "Gross" mileage!!!  ;D

Eternal for the exhaust. £120 quid delivered for a full system IIRC.

http://www.eternalcar.com

They don't list the 3.2 but a 3.0 system will fit. Just doesn't have the tailpipe trims.

Check out this site
