Power steering problem
« on: 21 May 2009, 09:32:53 »

Being the idiot that i am I forgot that I had drained the PAS reservoir while doing my thermostat and went to move the car yesterday.

I realised as soon as I tried to turn the wheels and stopped. I filled up with fresh Dexron 2 and started the car again but now the steering makes a nasty noise when I try to turn the wheels. Left the car running for 10 minutes to see if it just needed to get the new fluid moving but still the same.

What am I likely to have damaged? Just the pump or something else?  :-[

its prob just airlocked, you need to run the engine and put the steering on full lock both ways this should clear it

Tried it on full lock both ways a couple of times but no joy.

Assume its the pump? Is there anything else it can be?

The steering feels very "notchy" too now BTW.  :-/

Not at all difficult, once all the bagpipes at the front are out the the way, access isn't too bad.

There were a couple of Omegas at the Pimhole the other week, and 3 at the far yard on Waterloo St Bolton.

Just had a look around Campbells at Bolton http://www.thomsonlocal.com/Campbell's-Dismantlers/0304686801101345000/map/companyinfo.html

he has 2 prefacelift cars & a facelift  4 pot (not recognising it I assume it's a 2.2 diseasal)
1 face lift only has 219000 miles on the clock ....  :-? and the other is a miniface lift 2.5 - might be a suitable power steering pump.  :y
