Engine Removal
« on: 28 May 2009, 01:16:11 »

As per my last thread regarding the replacement of the Big ends, i decided it would be worth while removing the engine as i wanted to change the gearbox anywho.

Whats the easiest way of engine+gearbox removal, Easier to come out in one lump ? im assuming things like the radiators will have to come out and obviously manifolds wil have to come off etc ......

Its quite possible to remove it all as a complete lump, have to be very careful not to damage anything on the way out, undo prop shaft, remove cats, undo gearbox support, unplug wiring, remove plenum, remove Multiram and airbox, remove radiator/s, unplug any electrical plugs and water pipes, remove nuts holding engine on mounts, undo 16mm nut holding atf in place (cant think how to describe this)...jack up the gearbox as you pull engine block out to help it out...as you pull out block unplug the water pipes at the back...

May well be worth removing gearbox first once you have cats off but definitely easier to do this once its all out...

If your aircon system is gassed I think legally you have to have it properly evacuated before undoing the pipes for this...in fact I think being caught letting out aircon gasses into the environment can lead to a jail sentence!!

Yep would agree with above, only small difference I did was to unbolt A/C pump and power steering pump and left them in the car, it save me having to drain down power steering and trying to get to that lovely bolt on the top of the A/C compressor.

Drivers side engine mount nut is easy to get to, passengers side is significantly harder due to the ABS/TC box and heat shielding being very much in the way!!!

Getting really strange now on the knocking side of things, went out tonight and not once did the engine knock, on or off load, tried loads of different throttle positions and not at all did it knock ?  :-?
