coolant disappearing
« on: 30 May 2009, 11:23:23 »

Hi guys,
im hoping that someone can help me with my problem please.
Over the last week or so,i have noticed that the coolant level is dropping quite significantly. At first i noticed a rather odd smell, similar to a burning smell, coming from the engine compartment,so i checked the coolant and it was empty,i topped it up with water and carried on my normal routine.Admittedly i got home and the car didnt move for a week, and yesterday checked it and it was empty again.I topped it up with water and coolant this time and set off on my journey(about 20 miles),on arrival i had the same smell again and the coolant was very low.I have checked the oil and there is no sign of water in the oil and looked underneath and see no sign of leaks.
Any advice please,i was thinking of rad weld as maybe its evaporating out somewhere but not being mechanically minded im not sure.
