Water pump??
« on: 06 June 2009, 16:47:28 »

Looked under the bonnet today with the engine running and I noticed there is a rattle coming from one of the pulleys. It sounds like a dry bearing sort of rattle. I don't think this has been happening long, I certainly haven't noticed it before when I've had the bonnet up with engine running. My guess is that the water pump is the cheif suspect. Is this true? (I'm not a mechanic). Any ideas? Is it OK to drive until I cen get it seen to next week possibly? Any advice greatfully received.

Could also be the tensioner pulley bearing, top left pully as you face the engine. 15 mm offset ring spanner and lever to your right will slacken the belt so you can flip it off the pulley. Despite what Vauxahll will tell you, the pulley IS available on its own. If you've caught it earlier enough you can very gently flip the dust seal from the bearing and add a dollop of grease to the ball race inside.
