goo in the tank solving
« on: 28 May 2009, 22:21:08 »

gonna get this sorted asap ,my question is i heard the later omegas oil coolers were stainless steel so is it more likely to be the seals than the actual cooler failing?
need know before my wallet gets dented lol

Still most likely to be the oiler itself. Shouldn't use the car until sorted, as that mayo blocks the cooling system, and will be a right pig to get out

Forte do a flush specially for cleaning oil cooler failures.

That oil will soften the hoses, so if its been used a lot in that condition, expect some hoses to blow, and also seals may start to fail

A litre of low foam washing detergent in the cooling system will break down the oil and is cheaper than forte cooling system flush. Drain system and repeat untill clear, although untill you have replaced the oil cooler you wont stop the contimination. I used iths method in a v6 3.0 ltr vectra b and worked a treat. :y

My oil cooler has also started leaking recently. :'( :'(
The ebay coolers seem to include, the plate,2x large nuts and 2x o-rings.
I got a list of parts needed from Andyc today which presumably are the parts VX list as being required.

oil cooler
4x seals-pipes to cooler
1x sealant(is this the same sealant as cam covers?)
plenum o-ring set
2x manifold sandwich plate to block gaskets
3x manifold sandwich plate to manifold gaskets
5ltrs coolant (obviously)
This lot come to £101.49 delivered on top of the £100 approx.cost of the cooler :o :o
I dont think the plenum o-rings are strictly necessary, does anyone know if all the other parts are?
Strangely,no mention of washers anywhere! :-/
