New guy has a fault ABS.TC, SPEEDO AND ONE OTHER
« on: 04 June 2009, 20:58:14 »

Hi Guys,
Just bought my first Omega and saw your site and thought you maybe able to help me out..
I have a 2000 VAUXHALL OMEGA CDX V6 AUTO all of a sudden the speedo stopped working and the t/c light along with the abs light came on..I have read on here that it could be the abs ecu but i don't have the problems with the power steering..And the lights are on all the time not intermittent.
I took it to a code reader fella and he couldn't read the abs side of the ecu for some reason and wanted me to buy a new ecu..i then gave it to a mate who said his machine didn't show any fault with the abs!!! i now have another display saying safe!! i seem to be digging a bloody big hole the more i look into it..I have also read that it could be a sensor on the rear axle is this correct?? HELP!!! i would pull my hair out but there isn't much left after owning a land rover (LOL) cheers guys Ali  :D

'Safe' on another display is for your radio, saying that you need to enter the code if you want to listen to it.  :y

You did get a 'Car Pass' with your car when you bought it ..... didn't you?!?!  ;)

There are 2 sensors one front axle one back...the one that relates to the drive of your car is the one that will sense speedo readings i.e. front one for FWD and rear one for RWD...however if speedo is not working and both TC and ABS lights are on...ABS/TC ECU is the problem...

The only sensor I can think he might mean .... is the sensor on each wheel that detects rotation .. so there happen to be 2 on the rear axle .. one at either end !!!

If you read this link ...

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152729807

It gives info on some ABS problems .. BUT .. big BUT .. if you have the Speedo/TC/ABS/power sterring problems .. it is, I'm afraid .. the ECU not just one wheel  :(

I had this on the old miggy .. bba reman took my ECU, examined it, repaired it, returned it .. in 5 days ... it was then fitted on the saturday and on the monday we left for 3 weeks in France .. towing the big white box .... !!!  No problems at all  :)

Same story with ORO's ECU this week. Removed Saturday, sent to BBA, refitted 4 working days later and everything working. :y

Also... a long shot Iknow but... If the tyres on the front and rear have different profiles, this will also show the same symptoms on ABS light etc....

Nice to see another McLean on the forum  :y

If you undo the ABS unit and bend it up towards you there is enough flexibility in the brake pipes to angle it enough to get to the 6 screws...saves a lot of swearing and a good hour in time...that way job can be done in 45 mins to an hour :y

try the fuse in the panel under the steering wheel,   its the second row down,  and second from the right.
this controls the speedo, abs and TC.
