.....
They are nowhere near enough compressed when the pad is sitting in the caliper Lizzie. If they were, then the sensor would fall out.

PS

Sensors at CAF....£9 inc VAT for the PAIR.

The wear sensor will clip into the anti-rattle spring of the pad whether it's fitted into the caliper or sitting on your bench/floor/hand/other. My wear sensors hadn't worn through when I changed my discs & pads this week end, but i still had to use a pin punch to remove the seanors from the pads.  :-/  :-/  :-/

rather than paperclips in the socket, a better job would be to modify an old sensor, shortening the wire to and inch or so, and shorting the wires, then popping on a bit of heat shrink...

I was intending it purely as a test of the rest of the check system, not to be used on the road.

I always keep some premade shorted out plugs - handy if you have to pop the pads out for any reason (like for me to try to file off the glazed bits ::)), and the sensor breaks...

I think the sensors are more trouble than they are worth,I binned mine the first time I changed the pads.Bridged the connector terminals, job done.Im perfectly capable of keeping an eye on them without the car telling me they need changing. :)

Next time you pull it apart and want the sensors out, just push both ends of the spring down as far as they will go....the sensor will practically fall out.
