Front Shocks Interchangeable?
« on: 15 June 2009, 16:58:03 »

I have a facelift 03 2.6 CDX that needs new front shocks.
Know a man that can supply pre-facelift shocks for £10

Are the front shocks/struts interchangeable between the pre & facelift models - and different engine types?

I'd hazard a guess that they will be technically different. The fl did have uprated suspension, and 10mm lower, as I recall.

However, they are 'only dampers'. I know thats a ridiculous thing to say, and yes, old completely clapped-out dampers can be close to down-right dangerous. But I dont mean it in the sense that as a system, they dont matter, of course they are crucial to handling. But what I mean is if you've been offered a pair for a mere 'Pavarotti' I'd snatch his hand off. You've then got all the time in the world to find the precise 'correct' dampers; and probably preferable to bouncing around on old shocks.

Front shocks are the same for all 2.5, 2.6, 3.0, and 3.2 models that do not have the lowered sports chassis.

Part numbers:
9192249 (Left)
9192250 (Right)

Once you have changed them, you will want a full geometry setup.

F/L is pretty much just that...cosmetic changes. Suspension is interchangable on my '94 Elite and my '00 CD.
MV6 is lowered and possibly Estate rear springs are different from saloons but that's about it I think.

apart from Estates (obviously) afaik all shocks will swap and will physically fit. Within that there are some variations, mv6(lowered sports chassis) sit lower and are said to be firmer, but i beleive this depends if customer, plod mv6, or armoured car/hurs  doubt you'll stumble across those too often.

I imagine TD shocks will physically fit. But presumably would be of little use on 2.0litre due to the vast difference in
engine weight and damping and spring weight requirements for each....?

Must stress "presumably", i would check thorougly first, but you get the drift?
