Not mine, a 3 litre MV6 on an X plate which has covered only 66K.

Car is fine for first 40 miles or so, then decides it will stay in whatever gear it is in.
Problem can be rectified by switching off and restarting.

It's been on diags apparently (although I don't know what garage it went to, so can't confirm Tech2) and no faults found.

When the problem was first described to me, my immediate response was fluid & filter change - but the fact you can clear the problem by switching off & restarting is kind of throwing the thought about shagged fluid out of the window.

Any ideas/clues folks?

Is it sticking purely in 3rd? Sounds like limp mode if so. Should get Auto Gearbox on MID.

If that is the case, code read on gearbox ecu

As far as I'm aware, there are no warnings on MID and it's not just 3rd it sticks in....I'll ascertain more tomorrow (it's an old guy, so I'll more than likely end up driving it myself to see what the fault really is in detail).

Ta muchly for the new line of questioning though  :y
