Woah thats drastic  :o - I'm not doing that! My alloys are fairly tidy.

I don't even have a car pass. Made decoding the radio fun. If I can't work out a way of getting them out myself then I'll send it down the garage. Would rather not have to though.

Ring your or any dealer and see what they say, for the price of a phone call its worth a try. Youll need proof of ownership at least. Worth a shot.

Will give it a shot. Also another thread with a picture of the pattern I need. Hoping someone local might have one.

To drill it out is fairly easy and quite quick. Starting at 2mm working up to 12mm. Drill only as deep as the collar then the head will come off . the remains of the stud undid by hand, Took about 1/2 hour.

And if you have anything 12 mill diameter to fit into
12 mill hole you can lever it off without drilling all the way through to the wheel. Or the bolt head may well break free, if its done up tight enough, before the drill touches the brass insert. Centre punch the bolt first or the drill may well spin off and scratch the wheel. Last resort though imho.

You might even find a nice mechanic who will just say 'gimme a minute til the boss has gone' and he'll whip it off for you..

To be honest its not the most insurmountable problem in the world. All you're missing is the key, most places you could get the stud off have already been mentioned. Main dealer, Garage, local motorfactor, tyre fitters, etc. Just dont let some cowboy go near it with an angle grinder. There are some truly thick people out there.

The key number for the locking bolts  DOES NOT come on the car pass.

The locking wheel bolts where either fitted a port of entry or by the dealer at PDI.

Each "kit" has a card in the lid of the box with the key number on, if you lose the card you might be lucky and find someone with the same key or you'll have to have them "removed"

The main problem is the wheel nuts are done up far to tight with a zip gun so when you come to undo the nut (normaly middle of the night miles for anywhere and in the rain) you find the socket will break.

Always, always, always torque wheel bolts with a slight smear of copper slip on the tapper of the bolt

Cheers

Ah! Raised an issue that will never be resolved, there. To grease or not to grease wheel studs/nuts?

Personally never had a problem as my wheels are coming off / on on an almost weekly basis!

The trick is, as said earlier, NEVER do them up with anything but your own strength..and always pull upward to tighten. That way in the cold and rain when you have a puncture you can always get them undone.

Don't mean to get off topic, by the way. Have you tried a tyre fitters? Honestly, theyve got all the gear, its their job, after all.

Oh, or park down a dodgy street, let the local 14-year-olds loosen the wheels for you. I think most kids today are fairly proficcient in the removal of alloy wheels.  :D

its a shame you don't live closer as ive got a brand new set of wheel locking nut removing tools here that wud take them off no problem

they are impact type sockets so you can use an air gun and they have a thread on the inside that bite into the locking stud and undo's them easy :y

If I'd known when I picked the car up that would have been useful  ::) I picked it up from Redditch and all the service history is with Steve Thompson of Walsall! Ah well.

I did phone my local ATS and they said that they cannot do it  :-? Am just pondering methods that I could use myself other than hammering a socket over.

Thanks Lee, Much appreciated. Only problem is the car has no MOT now so can't take it anywhere. I would try to beat a socket on myself but I have no spare ones, I'm not mashing up the only good one I have.

Im sure someone will correct me if im wrong but your allowed to drive the car to and from a mot and to and from a place of repair if prebooked. As im also an mot tester  if you wanted to and we arange a time then i dont see a major problem ill just say its booked in for a test.

Toby, it is really easy to get an impact socket and bang it over the wheel locking nut. What you will do is break or bend the ring that spins kocking the socket onto the actual locking nut. Done it a few times each with the same result :y

Dont think Vx will give you a new key unless you have the actual number of the locking nut :-?
