I often resisted the urge to stop and offer help (or offer use of my mobile phone, when these were still rare) when seeing a lady motorist broken down. I believe that a car with a lone male driver stopping next to them will get them concerned even before I roll down the window. Maybe I am wrong...

I did assist injured people on a couple of ocassions before the emergency services arrived on the scene, though it was more about comforting them really as their injuries were not life-threatening.

Helping broken down Police cars? I dont think this is really an option, I am sure they have all these rules and regulations that prevent un-authorised personnel from fiddling with them, and they are probably not permitted to allow a civi car to tow them anyway... Brucie?

yes this is probably the case, however i knew one of these coppers and so had a bit of a snigger at there expense. did noice another police car coming round the bed toward them as i left, and then on the way back they had already gone, so i guess they had another patrol come along and tow them away???

who knows.

Many moons ago, when I was a teenager, I and a friend where riding
our first motorbikes, still on 'L' plates, around country lanes.

We both came round a corner, hit a patch of oil whilst leaning, and
skidded off the road. So there we were, bikes with bits broken off them
with wheels spinning gently, dribbles of blood on both of us, laying
dazed in the road.

A car came round the bend, saw us, and pulled up. Thought he was stopping
to see if we needed help. He got out, walked over, and looked down at us
lying in the road with a big grin on his face.

"Well, this is a stroke of luck," he said, "didn't think I'd find anyone out here.
I've got lost. Can you give me directions to such and such?"

He's lucky we could only hobble. I've never seen anyone run off so fast to
their car!!

In my country nope..you will get into trouble..

thats interesting, why is this the case? most cases i will also stop for accidents i dont know why people think its a good idea to wander around the roads without some form of high viz on, i often stop just to make sure everyone is ok, adminster first aid where needed and  then i be off again. most cases i will wait till an ambulance or police car arrives, as the ones i stop at useually warrant there arrival.

I'm a government worker ..Believe me even I stay away from them..Unless it become too necessary..

In big cities some of  police have bad relations..And when you give your hand they want to take your arms..

Happened me a few times..A very well learned lesson..

oh you do make turkey sound a lovely place to visit maybe i should steer clear of the place. lol

shame about that realy, but i guess each country is different.

I'm a biker and I will stop whenever I see a stranded bike. I have been helped on a few occations by kind hearted people, but not every time. I had to push my GP100 (I was only 17) for 6 miles...through some of the nastiest parts of Brum. For those that know the area, imagine a young chap, pushing a little bike down the length of Soho Road in Handsworth at 2am. Scarey.

I digress. Help people if you can, because you might need their help in the future (that sounds like one of the crappy morels that He-man used to say at the end of each cartoon). Don't be a miserable b'stard.

I used to do recovery for the RAC on the transporter wagon and i can remember on one occassion my mate was on duty using the spec lift (A wagon that can do a rear or front end lift) anyway, he was driving back from a rescue and he saw that a car had broken down on the M4 by Magor, he pulled in and 3 lads got out the car and said thank god, we have ran out of petrol.
We used to carry 2 gallons of petrol and diesal for this type of call out, my mate (Nick) told them if they paid for the gallon of petrol he would let them have that, one guy said ok, well, as Nick was walking to his wagon one of the lads came up behind him and punched him to the ground then the other 2 lads got stuck in also. Nick ended up in hospital and most of his own tools etc were stolen from his wagon.

3 weeks later these lads were caught because that part of the motorway where they stopped was on camera, they each got 18 months inside.

From that day I have never stopped for anyone other than a lone female, I would love to stop to help others but in this day and age NO WAY.

The older bikes were quicker than modern small bikes. 55mph out of the 50cc was easy

My GP100 had a Micron exhaust (which DID make a big difference) but I never got more than 75mph. Anyway, how many "older" bikes can beat my 165mph TL1000R??? Not many I should think.

Ported, extra tooth on front sprocket, Micron, 9 grade plug (after the blow up) 102.5 main jet. Ate CB125Ts for breakfast. Fastest seen on clock 90mph, fastest genuine on flat 80mph (85 indicated - worked out from gearing, revs, and knowleage of speedo discrepancies - I had 3 points!!!!)

The AE50s and Fizzies were quick for mopeds

And 80 out of a 100 , mine would do 70 when standard! 12bhp was alot in 1978 for 100cc
