HP aircon pipe
« on: 07 July 2009, 12:44:06 »

Hi everyone,  how do you remove the HP aircon pipe, the one at the front. My valve decided to vent all the gas out of it. I have the chance of a second hand section of pipe but need to remove both it and my old one. Cant find a how to and can see it in the book of lies.
Any help would be great, I am sure I will work it out but wanted to ask first to save me some time in case it is a special type of pipe join.
Many thanks    Al

Follow the pipe back from the valve towards the compressor, if you find a quick release connector it can be separated without the special tool, just use circlip pliers to remove the circlip hiding behind the green rubber dust cover. Be sure to keep all the washers and spacers, o rings etc that fall out and put them back in the right order.
The joint under the battery tray is simply held togeher by a central bolt.
You might find your pipe goes direct to compressor without any coupling. In that case you have to disconnect pipes from compressor (socket from above...visibility is awkward but easy once you work it out) Then unbolt compressor and ease it out to release the pipes.

Many thanks, will give it a go. There is a rubber cover (with ithink 4 prongs on it) that fits into what looks like a union, but from the angle I couldn't see how it goes together. Will try from below and see how I get on.
Cheers again,      Al

Many thanks, would save me a great deal of both money and time. I looked at just replacing the valve as it looks like it unscrews but couldn't get a socket to fit, looks an odd shape so may need slightly different style of socket. Great that I work on just about the only imperial aircraft left, I hate metric sometimes.
Thanks again for all the help/advise.

I'm pretty sure I just used an ordinary 6 sided socket.  ;)

well non of my 15mm sockets or spanners fit, looks like it has 8 sides, but only just. By that I mean they are very shallow flats. Could be it was changed before with a random part. Will try and be creative tomorrow, although one specialist I spoke to said it wasnt a valve you could change and I would need the whole pipe.
Just to confirm, mine is a pre-facelift. It does look like it should just unscrew, it is fitted into a brazed on union that has flats for a spanner so as to not bend the pipe when doing/undoing the valve.

Just a note of thanks  for the advice. Non of my tools or any from work fit the valve. Well I say non but the mole grips got it off in 2 seconds. Didnt matter as it was old and knackered anyway.
Anyway, thanks for the info. I would have changed the whole pipe if not for your help.

As a new one from Vx was over £100 it encouraged me to look harder!  :y  :y ;D
