overheating and oil - pt 2
« on: 18 July 2009, 19:22:38 »

right, here goes....
i have sorted the cam cover gaskets and they are seated fine (have felt round back of half moon, and no oil), quickly checked the breather tubes and they seem fine and changed both central silencers (sounding better now)
the problem i have now is that i have a distinct oil leak dripping off the bottom of the auto-box bell housing (the torx bolts) and i have had as good a look as i can see but cant seem to trace the source of the leak, but it looks quite high up (as far as i can see in the daylight).  this is also only while the engine is running.  also after changing the exhaust, and with engine running, i noticed that there was a lot of moisture coming out of the back of the tail pipe with a little smoke, and i am also loosing coolant at a good rate (bearing in mind that i still need to change the rad which has a cracked top hose mount)  any help from you guys again would be great!!!  cheers in advance!!!

Water out the tailpipe is normal due to the cat, I would say its the rad thats the prob.
with the oil leak from the gearbox there is a couple of threds about the same prob hope they help to solve your prob. Have a look at the first one theres a couple of pics. I bet yours is the same.

just took her for a quick spin and she is still loosing coolant, maybe rad still though, but that aside.
she was smoking more and her idling was a little erratic to say the least. i tried the heating yesterday to see if it was the dreaded HBV, but there was no water dripping from the back of the engine or that area, again, any help would be great!!

White smoke is usually caused by coolant or water coming out of the exhaust. Does it smoke a lot?

May be a head gasket but they're rare on a V6 mind you :-/
Sometimes when the head gasket goes it will produce a passage for the antifreeze to pass from the capillaries into the combustion chamber.
