Omega engine removal

Hi Guys

When changing an engine in a mig V6 auto - is it best practice to seperate the bellhousing and torque converter first - or is it easier to pull the whole lot out including gearbox?

definetly preferable to pull engine with gearbox out mate!!!
far easier than trying to get to the bellhousing bolts with it in and far easier to put together when both on the floor in front of you rather than trying to juggle the torque converter into place while lift ithe gearbox!!! :y

Ouch i know that feeling well...

Don't you push the TC into the gearbox, ,and bolt it to the flex plate afterwards?

I am just wondering - if I am going to go to the extent of changing the engine in the beast - and have the autobox out of it,

Should I replace with a manual?  ::)

well im well known to be a great believer in sludge pumps sorry autos :'( NOT!!

Having changed an engine twice in quick succession, once with gearbox attached, once seperated, I have to agree with Omegatoy - pull them out together.

The time we split it, we must have spent 6 or 7 hours trying just to get the box to line up :o (with some very talented people)

I took the engine & gearbox out together ....


I did cut the bonnet slam panel out as well though  ::) ::)

thats what i did aswell, complete with suspension & subframe. :)

I would rather align a gearbox to an engine than an engine to a gearbox …if you know what I mean

And yes again changed mine from auto to manual this weekend its the difrence between night & day

Whats the difference in fitting/removing a manual v. auto :-/ When I pulled my engine out it wasn't bad pulling them out seperatly :-?

Glad i spotted this thread, as will be takin the engine out of my scrapper for james in the next few days! chopping bits of bodywork outta the way sounds like a good idea!  :y
