MV6 suspension on 2.5 TD
« on: 21 July 2009, 11:56:27 »

I understand that the suspension fitted to MV6 models was slightly lowered and stiffened.

I have recently put 18's on my mig, and wanted to lower it slightly.  I dont want a 40mm drop, about 20-25 would do me.  Im not sure how much lower the MV6 were, but would it be noticable?

My main worry is the weight up front.  Obviously the BMW lump is pretty heavy.  Would the MV6 suspension cope with the extra bit of weight?

Also did the MV6 just run different springs and dampers, or did they run a thicker anti-roll bar?

I currently have monroe adjustable rear dampers, but they are knackered and need replacing, so i was thinking rather than just throw on some crappy dampers, would it be worth spending a little extra and putting an MV6 setup on.

Sorry for the essay

I lowered my previous 2.5td ('94 Elite) by 40mm and used standard height monroe shox. Rims are 17's

There was significantly less diving under heavy braking and almost no body roll, but still a comfortable ride. Not harsh at all.
Darned good handling for a big old barge. :y
I think the MV6 is 15mm lower  :-/
I found 40mm to be a little too low, so on my current 2.5td I'm looking at either std height up-rated front springs, but can't find them anywhere or something around 20mm lower.
I have been in contact with a company that will make std height up-rated jobbies but they need an original std spring to develop them first. The price would be around £90 a pair, and then cheaper after development of the initial springs.

The straight 6 is longer than V6, so is a bit more nose heavy than the V. Which affects handling a tad. should not affect MV6 suspension  :-/

The BMW TD engine is significantly heavier than the GM V6
