yep anticlockwise, and although it sounds frighteningly like it could sheer the bolt head off i have never had it with a quality socket on the end, if you have an assistant it is better to hold the breaker bar in place to stop it jumping off when key is flicked but it isnt strictly necessary, its just that if on your own you cant see the crank puley when turning key!!
it cannot be as bad as the focus i did the other day!1,
breaker bar and socket = no go
windy gun half inch drive =no go
breaker bar with scaffold bar on it= no go
copius amounts of wd and plus gas windy gun on it for a minute at a time(big compressor running flat out =no go
electric wheel gun with 800lbsft if torque=no go
in sheer desperation rang a mate who fits truck tyres for a living and borrowed his inch drive windy gun 1600ftlbs of torque on it with reducer from inch to 3/4 and 3/4 to halfinch onto short extension bar and onto socket and after about a
60seconds of continuos trigger pull it finally came out!! yeehaa took the whole day to do the cambelt cos of that one 17mm bolt!!!!
