one way valve

hi again just got my v6 dvd and it great that pipe that runs along the front of the engine on to the one way valve well i can blow through mine both way so looks like i need to get a new one what does that one way valve actually do for the engine  :y

It is part of the secondary air injection system which is designed to warm the cats up quicker thus helping emissions.

It is not really required and so the recommendation from some people is to unplug the pump for it, which is located under the nearside front wing, and then remove the pipework and block up the rubber fixings that the pipe you tak about goes into. :y
