Idling speed
« on: 23 July 2009, 08:57:55 »

Mornin all !
I,m a complete and utter Vauxhall virgin .. after 35 years of motoring , bought my first ! Its an Omega V6 estate .. all the specs etc and , I must admit , I,m very pleased .. mostly !
Just a couple of questions for those a damn sight more intelligent than me ( thats most of the world population !! )
Firstly, the engine ticks over at just below 500rpm .. is this normal ?
Finally, it seems to take a helluva long time to warm up (around 10 minutes at normal driving) and stays at 80ish !
Thanks very much guys ;0)
Chers,
Pete

Idle should be 450-500 with aircon off and around 100rpm higher with aircon on.  So that sounds right.

Omega temp gauges have different markings based on age, guessing yours says 80 and 100 on.  If so, 85-90 would be normal cruising temp, rising to 92ish in traffic before fans drag it down.  Stat is the normal reason for cold running.

Sound very good to me.

Welcome to OOF .. :)

Temperature description is almost exactly what I had .... before the thermostat was changed, now warms up within 3 miles and sits at about 90 degrees (middle of the guage).

If you don't fancy doing the stat yourself .... Loo-Knee and ElitePete (midlands) or JamesV6CDX (southwest/wales) do "mobile mechanicking"... stick your location in your profile and someone might be near you and willing to help for a suitable number of beer tokens .. :)
