No Speedo or Rev Counter

Not had any problems for a while but tonight the speedo and rev counter have stopped working. All the warning lights, the temp gauge and fuel gauge are still working. The rev counter is vibrating a few degrees either side of zero whenever the ignition is switched on and it continues for a few seconds after it is switched off. I've checked Fuse 12 and it is is OK. Neither the dash or the dials have been disturbed and I have tried pushing the dial assembly to no avail.
Any ideas please?

Exactly same problem as I have at the moment.

Opinion was that it was component failure within the clocks and that a new set of clocks was required.

Thanks Toby. Does anyone know what the stealers and breakers want for them and how easy they are to get out?

It could be the ABS TC ecu unit. As some of the other components in your dash still work I'd tend to think it was the ecu at fault. Hopefully other members will advise as to whether it could be this.

They are easy as pie to remove. You'll find a guide in the Maintainence Guides section.

Going rate seems to be arounnd £20. Make sure you get correct ones. 140mph for 4 pot, 160mph for V6 and needs to be from similar age car so I'm told (check numbers on back of dials to ensure they match)

I was led to believe this would bring on the ABS and or TC lights. I have the same problem and ABS and TC work fine. No lights, just like the OP. Not saying you're wrong (you could indeed be right and I could be talking out my backside  ::)) just speaking from my experience  :y

Thanks. Don't believe it is the ABS ECU. I did this a year or so ago and it did not take out the Rev Counter out when it failed. The ABS + TC lights were on permanently as well.

You're most probably right Toby, I just did seem to remember someone had a failed abs ecu and the rev counter did not work. V6coop, I'd go with what Toby says :)

ABS ECU failure = abs + tc lights on, speedo kaput (NOT rev counter) no tc and probs with power steering

when this happened to me (covered in other thread)  my speedo was the one flickering around zero.

I tried several sets of clocks as I had them around. v6 ones were useless for my 4 pot. And a 1996 2.0 one didn't work either as i've a '99. Finally a set from a '99 2.0 went in and problem solved.  :y

If I had a clue where to start testing electronic components and for what results I'd be happy getting me solder iron out, but as it is, a few screws in and out and I'm sorted  :y

Apparently you can even change the mileage to match your old one, but I wanted to see a set working before taking it out again to try that....

One last Omega on the drive, one Corsa on the lawn...maybe they'll go to a good home before too long!
