coolant low displayed, but no loss. (sorted)
« on: 30 July 2009, 16:42:48 »

OK, simple enough, coolant low has suddenly come up on the MID, checked it all OK. So thinking theres a sensor / switch or lead problem on the refill tank.

So heres my problem cant find any sensor on the plastic tank looked every where, plus no sign of any lead. Am I right in thinking its on the Refill Tank, or elsewhere? or am I just miising something here.

Cars a Mig MV6 FL Estate.

I think you'll find it's time for a new tank. The sensor is an integral part of the tank that you can't buy seperately. Just had mine done recently - around £30 for a new one on TC.

I think it comes from underneath the tank and is a pain to get to without taking it off, either way your gonna have to take it off so might aswell get a new one, need to do mine at some point too

Right, just had my eyes and fingers all round and under the tank, still cant find no cable!, theres a round plastic float inside which if push down comes back up (coz theres water in it).

If the cable has come off would expect it to be floating arround somewhere.

The cable is definitely from underneath the header tank. It's only held in with a clip on the edge of the wing/engine bay and then it slide in towards the middle of the car.  :y

I like the sound of that, just a question of finding it now.  :y

Am I right in assuming that the sensor goes straight to the MID and not the ECU, if so, might be able to trace it backwards. :-/

I've just been to look at mine. The loom splits into 3, one bit goes to the brake master cylinder reservoir cap, one bit goes to the cruise and the 3rd is for the header tank float!  :y  :y  :y

Thanks for that Andy, armed with the loom details, found the cable, its been pulled back on its self and was lurking under the scuttle panel thing.

Andy, you were spot on, someones pushed a wire on the plug and shorted it (little B*stards), Nice one.

 :y :y :y :y

Thanks All.
