Stalling V6 3.0
« on: 31 July 2009, 17:51:39 »

Ok help needed.

Ive been back on the road now with no issues following the rebuild. However on the way home from work today she started stalling everytime the revs dropped off. Didnt matter what speed just dies. It did this all the way home so ended up driving with both feet to keep the revs up at junctions/roundabouts.

Got home and parked on drive and died. Started engine and took foot off the accelerator and died straight away. Tried this several times and it did this everytime. Theres no hesitation, as soon as the foots removed the revs drop straight to 0 and dies.

Anyone got any ideas. I can start her and keep the revs up with the accelerator and theres no eml on at all :-?

This is really annoying and I cant drive her like this so any help would be appreciated  :'(

I popped the bonnet and removed and refitted icv plug and checked the leads and everything appears ok.

Only thing I can think of is that there was dirt in the fuel lines and that its settled when cold. Although it is a new fuel filter so lord knows  :-/

so, you started it up b4 you touched the icv or after. might be worth taking the valve off & giving it a good clean inside with carb cleaner or gunk. give it a good soak inside & get the valve moving freely. they do get sh*t up & start sticking. give that a go.  :y

Yes I started it without touching anything, then removed multiplug and refitted. It drove ok all morning.........

Then I have been for a drive into sheffield and it went ok on the way there but half way back it started to do it again. I know I have the air leak on the passenger manifold but I wouldnt expect that to cause the engine to stall and like I said there is no eml on at all.

Is it possible that it is bringing a fault up but not displaying the light??

Ok heres an update. No codes stored!!

Removed icv and gave it a really good clean, it was covered in dried on oil and needed a good scrub and clean. All breathers appear ok.

Removed downpipe and resealed as couldnt get hold of a manifold gasket at such short notice, garage needs to order one.

Havent had time to take it on a run yet,  but fingers crossed it may have solved the stalling issue when hot, also found the top water hose that goes from throttle housing to rear of engine trapped under icv restricting the water flow so this may be the reason for her running at a slightly higher temp then before (2 degress higher) again not tested yet but will now better tomorrow.
