Just wondering apart from giving you a few extra horses when you turn it on, does it firm up the suspension at all. And what extra do you get i really only use it for quick overtaking but we have some windy roads here so firmer suspension would help out.

Got a feeling it just keeps it in gear for longer / alters the change points on the auto box.

It is not connected to the suspension in any way

Marks_DTM said these are adaptive gear boxes and get used to the way we drive.  I see the Sport button as an over ride to the normal waft mode.  It seems to sharpen the throttle responce, kickdown is more responsive, it reves a bit higher, generally doesnt go into 4th (if at all) and is allways waiting to go when you hit the volume pedal.

In which case, I'm surprised mine didn't think there was a short-circuit on the kickdown, it was used that much

Does not do any of that, all it does it let you rev to red line and hold gears longer

And burns a whole lot additional fuel ... 
And oh, I use it as an engine brake as well by tapping on it at round abouts and turns when required

Does as Tunnie says it just holds the gear for longer, and also gears down sooner giving you better acceleration or engine braking dependant on wether you are accelerating or decelerating.
I have found that the autobox in my 2 litre holds the gear longer than it did in my old 3 litre under partial throttle conditions, probably trying to make up for the lack of horses!
