Ok thought I had sorted my problem of my 3.0 1999 MV6 stalling however think again.

Now whats interesting is that on both occasions this has started just after putting fuel in.

I let the car run quite low prior to filling last week and the following day she started to stall and not want to keep running as soon the foot was removed from the pedal no matter what speed. I waited removed icv plug and it was ok. So I cleaned out the icv at the weekend and it hasnt happened since.

Until tonight, I have been to the same morrisons filling station, and pulled away no problem. Went to the store and did a little shopping (about 1/2 hour). Came back to car, started and stalled. Did this numerous times and car just would not stay running. Managed to nurse her home using both pedals so I could keep revs up.

Did paperclip test and the only codes coming up are 12 and 31. If im correct 12 is diagnosis Initiation, however I have no idea what 31 is.

Anyone got any ideas? Ive bought another fuel filter as this was only replaced 2 weeks ago but other then that Im stumped  :-?

Just means the engine isn`t running

If you did the paperclip test without the engine running getting code 31 is normal. It is no engine RPM signal.

Great so that means no sensor faults. Im now wondering if it is just a case of bad fuel as both times its been just after fill up from the same filling station. If its been full of crap it could have been circulating and blocking the injectors. That may be why it was ok after leaving it a few hours last time.

I know supermarket fuel may be a few pence cheaper but "branded" fuel such as BP, Shell etc do have added addatives ive been informed and keeps your engine etc. running sweeter.

Whoa there. There is an awkward 'chicken and egg' problem with the 'no RPM' code.

If your engine was running that code would mean that your crank sensor was faulty but off course you can't get the engine running in the first place

When you try to start the engine watch the engine warning lamp. If it goes out then you have a signal from the crank sensor, if it stays lit then you probably have a faulty crank sensor.

Ok, left her all night, started her first time this morning.

Drove all the way to work with no issues at all, so I think it must be a case of bad fuel.

When I fill up it must be disturbing the crap in the bottom of the tank and blocking the filter or injectors.

Is there anything I can put into the fuel to break it down?  :-?

Faulty crank sensor code is 19 - 31 is no signal from crank sensor (if engine not turning is as expected)
