Omega Specialist near Reading
« on: 24 August 2009, 10:17:53 »

Hi All,
I'm a relatively new Omega owner and seem to be having most of the standard V6 related problems with my car at the moment.

I've looked at lots on info on this forum before registering and whilst there seems to be everything here that you could ever possibly need to know, I don't think my mechanical skills are up sorting it all out really.
Is there anywhere I can find a suggestion for an Omega specialist in or near Reading who I could trust to sort out the car?

I've tried contacting email adress removed but haven't had a reply since I emailed on the 13th - does anyone know if he's still available for this kind of work as his website suggests?

Thanks in advance.
Paul

Hi Paul
Sorry, but I can't suggest anyonearound Reading, but there's not many V6 common faults  that can't be tackled at home. You don't need to be particularly mechanically competant to do the job, maybe a contortionist to reach DIS packs & HBV's  ;D  ;D
Which specific problems are you having ..... I'm sure that you'd get a lift from a local member.  ;)

I've had an expensive problem with the LPG system recently which seems to have been resolved but I now seem to be having some overheating issues, rough running, "mayo" visible in the oil filler and a leak from the top of the engine which I assume is the cam cover gasket (I think that's all!).

Its not only the lack of mechanical knowledge, but also the lack of time. We have a new baby arriving tomorrow as well - which is spurring me on to get the car running better (over heating seems to have got worse in the last week) but isn't helping with the ability to have time to tackle it myself!

Mayo in the filler cap is normal if you do short runs,
have you checked your plug wells for oil? if theres oil in there it means your rocker gasket needs replacing.
that could cause the rough running.
Have you flushed youre cooling system and changed the coolant? might be the thermastat on its way out that its starting to overheat but its normal for a rather high temp by the mig. ( 92 / 95 deg.)

Congrats on your new arrival :y

Thank you. A few challenges ahead but we have my mother in law over from Bolivia (where my wife is from) and our 10 year old daughter - both happy to help look after our 19 month old son and help with the new arrival so hopefully things will go smoothly.

Not checked - but I realise I should do when I find a spare minute.

Flushing the cooling system was going to be my first task - worried about not doing it right and making airlocks though. Don't want to make things worse!
Was you last comment a typo or just something I don't understand "...a rather high temp by the mig." - what's the "mig"?

Temp was heading for 100deg as I arrived at work this morning - 10-15 mins of 30mph town driving, no queuing though.

congratulations and welcome to oof.

Try Dk motors in Thatchem. Dealer prices iirc but they know the Omega, used to specialise in them and are now Vauxhall only. Have not used them myself but they have been helpfull on the phone in my pre forum days. Needles to say, avoid the dealers in the area, as im sure you know. :-)

Can take a look if you like but have very limited time myself at the mo.

Hi Paul and congratulations on the new arrival. A mig is short for Omega.

this is a how to for the coolant flush,
just pull the plug leads off and have a look for oil it takes about two mins.
